4 Things to Do Near Dulles Airport This Winter
Explore the Area Near Dulles Airport
Washington Dulles International Airport is one of the most frequented airports in the United States. If you are doing some travel with this as your final destination, be sure to check out some of these items on our list! Or, if you are simply stopping through on your way to your final destination, come see all that the area has to offer during your long layover instead of sitting in an airport. Dulles International Airport is situated to allow visitors to explore the area without needing to travel too far from the area. Here are some things you will not want to miss.
1. Discover Washington D.C.
If you travel just 25 miles from Dulles International Airport, you will find yourself in the heart of the United States’ capital, Washington D.C. Considering traffic in the area, we only recommend venturing to D.C. if your itinerary allows you at least 8 hours or so before you have to catch your next flight. The more time you have, the better, as there is so much to see and do in our nation’s capital. We recommend starting with the major tourist destinations to check off your bucket list, such as the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and the White House. If you still have time after that, be sure to explore some of the top restaurants and museums in the surrounding area. Neighborhoods like Georgetown are also great to visit to experience the charm and beauty of the area while you pass the time.
2. Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum
The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum holds the largest collection of historic aircraft and spacecraft in the whole entire world! Aviation enthusiasts, and even those with no existing knowledge on aviation, will walk around this museum in true awe of the collections. This is a great museum to pick out especially if you have children. The exhibitions change pretty regularly, so it is always worth a visit when in the Washington D.C. area.
3. Check out a Movie at Alamo Drafthouse
If you have a good chunk of time in the area and really just want to relax, we recommend heading to the movie theater. Alamo Drafthouse is unlike any movie theater you have been to before. Complete with movie themed menus, fun drinks, great service, and delicious food and snacks, Alamo Drafthouse will provide you with a truly unique experience that you can only get in select locations in the United States.
4. Shopping at Dulles 28 Centre
This shopping mall is complete with tons of shopping and dining options, events throughout the year and so much more! We always recommend a trip to Dulles 28 Centre if you have a few hours in the area. Simply head out to the Dulles Airport Main Terminal and Arrivals door and take the shuttle bus or you can also easily grab a taxi outside for quick access to shopping and entertainment. This is a great alternative to being stuck in an airport for a long layover, so come shop with us and enjoy your time in Dulles! We look forward to your visit!
